As a commitment to social responsibility and educational excellence, Vivek High Montessori Institute (VHMI), Chandigarh and the District Administration Hoshiarpur have launched an AMI Esf Community Rooted Education (CoRE) Practitioners training. The District Commissioner of Hoshiarpur, having had first-hand experience with Montessori education through her son, was receptive to conversations on how to bring this programme to life. This training has been designed to bring the Montessori philosophy to the grassroots level in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab.

On 16 February 2026, 51 government Aanganwadi and pre-primary school teachers and 17 supervisors embarked on their modular training which will last until the end of the year. The comprehensive community outreach programme includes 2 CoRE leaders and 10 CoRE facilitators who will be guided in their journey by CoRE mentors. During the training, facilitators visit the Anganwadis/pre-primary classrooms every month to provide mentorship to the trainees and to upgrade each learning centre. Beyond theoretical training, VHMI is committed to providing Montessori developmental material and helping set up Montessori environments at each participating government centre through CoRE facilitators.

By equipping over 68 people (Aanganwadi worker, supervisors, and pre-primary government school educators) with the pedagogy and materials of the Montessori method, this initiative seeks to bridge the educational gap and fundamentally enhance the early childhood experience for hundreds of children across the district. To ensure deep understanding and effective implementation, all training lectures were and will be translated into Punjabi /Hindi onsite.

Ms. Meenu Sahi, Founder and Executive Director of VHMI, shared that the first 2 week module left her “humbled beyond words at the speed with which the practitioners adopted the training.” On 26 February, a widely attended press conference was held in Hoshiarpur to announce this project to the general public. The event, in which 5 practitioners shared their personal anecdotes and feedbacks on the project with the audience, received media coverage in English and local languages. Their feedback at the press conference spoke volumes about the high level of comprehension in just 9 days of training and how they had already begun applying the principles at home.

The heartwarming bond and connection between the trainers/facilitators and the practitioners is a common and cherished part of the Montessori world. By integrating Montessori principles—such as independence, respect for the child, and hands-on learning—into the Anganwadi or Pre-primary Government school system, it is possible to spark a significant shift in the district’s educational landscape. This journey is not just about training educators; it is about touching the lives of children who represent the future of our society.
